A Hierarchical Structure for Locating Intersections in a Large Sets of B-spline Curves

Abstract

The automation of maritime chart production at various scales requires at least two important processes: line modeling and generalization. During these processes, line intersections, self-intersections and neighboring lines can be encountered. Such drawbacks must be first detected and finally corrected. As thousands of curves are drawn, efficient approaches must be developed. This paper deals with a method to detect and locate these spatial conflicts for a large set of lines modeled by B-spline curves.
