Temperature and precipitation in the Mediterranean region: Present trends and future scenarios

Abstract

Model simulations for the end of this century present for the Mediterranean climate a mean temperature increase and a precipitation decrease in all seasons, particularly important in summer. They conclude on a warm season drought more intense and long with could lead to a desertification in the southern Mediterranean areas and a northward shift of all climate types of the Mediterranean region.
