Abstract
Atom Egoyan is a Canadian filmmaker, born in Egypt in 1960, to parents of Turkish nationality, descendants of Armenian refugees. This amalgamation of identities feeds his work, particularly his first films. The frontier theme is expressed in different ways: a symptom of a problematic search for a cultural identity, a relationship to an imaginary territory, a confusing boundary between the past and the present, reality and imagination or even between cinema, video and photography.
Atom Egoyan est un cinéaste canadien, né en Egypte de parents de nationalité Turque, descendants de réfugiés arméniens. Cet entremêlement identitaire féconde son cinéma, en particulier ses premiers films. Le thème de la frontière va se manifester, sous différentes formes : symptôme d’une quête identitaire problématique, relation à un territoire imaginaire, limite confuse entre passé et présent, réel et imaginaire, entre cinéma, vidéo et photographie.
