Questions théoriques et pratiques posées par la traduction en français d'un texte fondateur d'économie politique : les «Recherches sur la méthode» de Carl Menger
Abstract
The need for, and the usefulness of original translations for the broader audience as well as for experts is a given fact. The accuracy of translation implies considerable advantages and drawbacks with regard to the knowledge and know-how in a specific subject matter. In France, for a very long period dating 128 years, the French translation of the volume Untersuchungen über die Methoden der Socialwissenschaften (on the Social Sciences Methodology method, 1883) by Carl Menger (1840-1921), founder of the Austrian school of economics was long awaited for, while 2 translations, respectively from 1937 and from 1996, already existed in Italian version. The present essay describes the motivations and the translation process completed in 2011, together with its complexities, thereby providing a substantial contribution to the economic science, as well as to the professional specialized translation.
