An Interview with John Yau, poet and founder of Black Square Editions
Résumé
As the head of Black Square Editions, John Yau has curated a catalogue of innovative poetry and fiction shaped by his own aesthetic sensibility and long engagement with poetry, fiction, and art criticism. Having come of age as a poet at the St. Mark’s Poetry Project and under the influence of figures such as Robert Kelly and John Ashbery, and having honed his editorial practice through decades of writing and art criticism, John Yau shares his views on experimental poetry, the journey of running a small independent press, and the need to decenter and diversify the landscape of contemporary publishing.
